' Rudy' by Trish 1995 |
He made himself cap and gloves, and that took care of that.
But to be the real deal, and really play the game,
Rudy knew, he had to have a bat, to uphold his name.
He spoke to Mr Honer, who had always lived next door,
Mr Honer said 'I think I've got, just what your looking for.'
Down the garden path they, marched, straight to the shed,
'I knew I'd seen it somewhere, a cricket bat, and here it is', Mr Honer said .
Now Rudy was a kind boy, he liked his neighbor very much,
Of late, he'd noticed, he now used a sort of, walking-stick, crutch,
Maybe he could get the paper on his way from school, each day,
If he saved enough pocket money, maybe he could even pay.
When he told his old friend, how he hoped to repay, him like that,
Mr Honer said 'Now don't you give, another thought, about the bat
You're a good friend of mine, we've known each other, all your life, five or six years,
Now off you go wee one, not another word, nothing's sillier, than an old fool, in tears
