THE PLAYGROUND WORLD

Little folk over all the world,
look kindly on this little girl,
see her in a loving light,
one that shines day and night.

Smile at her when passing by,
especially when you hear her sigh.
Little ones of all the world,
smile upon this little girl.

MY GARDEN

I planted blue lobelia, at our front gate,
watered them every day, I could hardly wait,
to see their little faces raised to the sun,
I was so excited, as was everyone.

One long night, dark as dark, I heard a sound,
then someone say "Let's take them, from the ground,
we'll put them in gold goblets on the table of our guests,
or weave them into our hair which ever looks best."

My blue lobelia, planted at our front gate,
were surely the only thing, of any worth to take,
I listened, very carefully to soft sounds outside,
if I peeped through the window, they'd run and hide!

I wanted to stay there forever, to catch the tiniest glimpse.
It seemed there was to be a wedding, for a fairy or prince.
At last my eyelids grew heavy, I could not stay awake,
I wished them to have my lobelia, even if my heart did break.

She didn't play games like others do,
she'd say, welcome today, and tomorrow shoo!
One day the pendulum swung, for the last time,
it said, a final farewell to that she devil's whine.
